Formal Fridays

Yesterday April 15th, was Major League Baseball's annual Jackie Robinson Day which commemorates his racial integration of America's past-time. We touched upon Jackie's importance in society back in February and if you don't know about him find out about him. Jackie Robinson's influence meant a wave of people would come behind him and African Americans no longer just lived in the background, meaning subtly someone like Jackie paved the way and pioneered the way for the Black gentleman in terms of style. He carried himself with poise and shielded himself from the ridicule and never wavered under the pressure and of course ultimately succeeded; which to me opened the door for many things including the way we looked and dressed. Though his influence is broader than clothing, this Formal Friday is dedicated to the man who exemplifies breaking barriers and proving the impossible is possible.
